Vitamin C to cure the common cold
The first thing that comes to mind when treating a common cold is to take vitamin C. Nobel laureate Linus Pauling first found the relationship between vitamin C and colds. Since then, Pauling advocated high doses of vitamin C as a remedy against colds, the assumed effects of vitamins in relief of various diseases has always been a controversial issue. Many of the requests made on the Pauling vitamin C has attracted attention because it has won the coveted Nobel Peace Prize and other Nobel Prize for his outstanding work in chemistry. Dr. Linus Pauling is the only one to have won two unshared Nobel Prizes. He received the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1954 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1962. It was also the second person after Marie Curie won the prestigious award twice.
Pauling believed that the presence of vitamin C in the blocks of the queue intercellular viral particles moving in the cells and tissues. We also have a theory that participated in the activity of interferon. Interferons are proteins that prevent virus production and halt the spread of infections.
According to Pauling, the cold a result of a viral infection which causes inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. Colds can last from three to ten days, and can affect a person three times a year.
Vitamin C, also called ascorbic acid, is a term that literally means “no scurvy.” About 250 years ago, a British physician who discovered that sailors citrus fruits cured scurvy, a disease caused by a lack of vitamin C. dehydroascorbic acid and ascorbic acid are the active forms of vitamin C in foods. Most supplements contain only ascorbic acid.
Many studies on the effect of vitamin C on colds has been conducted since the end of 1930. In 1938, Dr. Roger Korbash St. Elisabeth Hospital, Oberhausen, Germany, published their findings that vitamin C is effective in treating various diseases. He used vitamin C to treat gastritis and ulcers. It uses as vitamin C to treat rhinitis or inflammation of the mucous membranes in the nose. He found that the treatment has been valuable and has decided to try injections of 250 or 500 milligrams of vitamin D in a person suffering from a cold. Concludes that the processing of vitamin C at all times led to immediate disappearance of symptoms of colds, but sometimes you may have a chance next day. General opinion is that vitamin C could safely be given in large doses. It is said that vitamin C is far better than medicines for colds.
Viitamin C in citrus fruit is the best immune booster for many reasons. Intake of Vitamin C results in increase of infection fighting white blood cells and antibodies and also increases levels of interferon which prevents the entry of viruses.

Although doctors are still discussing the results of clinical studies , most would agree that vitamin C is a good first step in the fight against colds.
